The wait can be long, but is well worth it. It's one of the few places where the quality of the beef is good enough that you can order a rare or "bloody" burger if that's what you want. My short list of burger joints that can do a rare burger is now three: The Counter, Jeffrey's, and Godfather's - at least here on the upper Peninsula. Plenty of beers on tap. And although the burgers can take a while, the beverages and appetizers tend to be quick. Beware the shake, which is one-PINT of ice cream. The burgers start at 1/3-pound and go up to 1-pound - "holy cow" (every pun intended). You can order a wide range of toppings, sauces, and buns to customize your burger any way you like it. It's easy to overeat at The Counter, so beware (especially the shake). Lines can be long, and there are no reservations. And sitting at the counter is always fun - the staff knows how to have a good time. It's one of the more expensive burgers you'll eat, but the quality is right up there with the price.
