This small, family-like place is much closer to Yosemite than Merced is, and for the same price! There is a/c (not a given in the Sierras) and a room fridge. They let me check in early (12:30pm). So I got to put my food in the fridge, before heading out to Yosemite.
The Yosemite bus picks up just a few yards down the street! And, because the River Rock is a little off the main street, it's quieter.
Breakfast is free. No hot food, but it was perfect for my needs: granola, yogurt, fruit salad, pastries, muffins, coffee, tea. (I did not try other meals there.) You can eat inside or outside, in the garden. There's free wi-fi, so you can work there, too.
Cons: The room was pretty dark & I had to turn on the lamps in the daytime. No shelf or bar in the shower, so you have to leave your washcloth on the (small) edge of the nearby sink while you're shampooing. And the bathroom door is a curtain. (So I marked them down a little on "Professionalism".)
But the staff was very attentive, re: helping me get in and then get out to Yosemite quickly! I would definitely stay there again.
