If you want a 5-star luxury experience on Phuket, this is it, without a question. Beautiful beyond words, elegant and peaceful. Lots of space and privacy, everything is discrete, and the staff really understand service. We met one of the owners of the Rachamankha while we stayed there in Chiang Mai, and he recommended the Amanpuri in Phuket to us if we liked his resort. He was right - we loved it! Prices are top dollar, though - you'd think you were in a luxury resort in the States. No bargains here. But the experience is up there with the finest hotels in the world. We didn't stay here only because we already had booked the Dusit Thani down the road - but had we known of the Amanpuri... We did have dinner, and the experience was sublime, complete with two musicians playing traditional Thai music on acoustic instruments - it felt as if you were in a temple while dining. Not really a young family-friendly hotel, but if your children are young adults (16 ), they may appreciate the beauty and specialness of the Amanpuri. Worth the splurge (at if dinner is any indication).
