After two days in Phuket we took the ferry to Phi Phi Island. The ferry ride to Phi Phi Island is beautiful and is about 2 hours. You cruise through the various islands in the Andaman Ocean en route -- breathtaking! We stayed at the Phi Phi Island Village Resort, which we would highly recommend. This is simply a stunning resort, a hotspot for Europeans and Australians. We were the only Americans there, which was interesting in and of itself. If you can spurge, stay in the hillside villas, about $450 US a night if you buy on the web. Your entire family (of four) can easily fit into these mini homes, which are a beautiful mix of outdoor/indoor living, complete with your own kitchen, deck, pool, with views of the ocean, mountains, etc. Glorious. Down below are long beaches, a huge pool with an inset swim-to bar, and a smattering of activities and crafts. My son was able to dive and for newbies this resort offers PADI training and certification. Loved this place.

Everything you imagined a tropical paradise to be - fine sand beaches, warm crystal clear waters, seafood... Phi Phi Villiage is on Loh Ba Goa Bay on Ko Phi Phi Don island. They provided us with a pesonal concierge who quietly looks after us for reservations, excursions, special requests... We stayed in a private Hillside Pool Villa complete with our own infinity pool, large patio and deck, separate dining and living room, and views so stunning that they look like from a movie. Internet is available here, too, if you need to check in with the real world. Many young couples here - it's a perfect honeymoon kinda place. Also families like ours, but we were a minority here. Tennis, fitness center, dive shop, pools including a water slide, and perfect beaches still make this family friendly. For those of you who may have stayed at Kona Village in Hawaii, this feels much like Kona Village but far more tropical and exotic - and at a small fraction of the cost. Getting here is no small feat, though - it's a 2 to 3 hour ride on a speed boat from Phuket. Don't try to book the boat in advance - trying to find the right ferry service can be a nightmare (it was for us - we missed ours). Food was good, but not amazing. The staff spoke very limited English, with the exception of the concierge and front desk.
