A must visit in a trip to Santa Barbara. Beautifully restored Mission that is still an active parish. The music at Mass is beautiful and the views outside are spectacular.

Queen of the Missions, it's called - and for good reason, as one of the most beautiful with magnificent views of the Santa Barbara channel on a clear day. My parents were part of the congregation, and I have fond memories of playing the pipe organ, ringing the tower bells, and walking along the roof between the two towers as a young teen. The interior is as special as the exterior - both the architecture and the art. If you have time, two areas worth exploring are the cemetery and the inner courtyard off the chapel, both attached to the main church. Naturally, do this when there are no services. A tour may be required these days to see these more special parts of the Old Mission. Also take time to stroll through the rose garden just across the street. If you enjoy walking, start here and head towards downtown. The neighborhoods are beautiful (walk down Santa Barbara Street), stop at Alice Kick Park, continue and visit the Santa Barbara Court House, and then wander downtown State Street.
