These craters are massive and spectacular. They're called craters, but there are huge "plugs" that look like mountains, coming up out of the craters. These particular ones are white and look almost like glaciers. The afternoon that I went, there were clouds around some of the sides and peaks of the plugs. They looked otherworldly!

I followed Google Maps, which showed an access road leading to Inyo Craters. This access road is on your right, if you're on HWY 120 E and Hwy 395 is behind you. (You come to it before you come to the sign for Panum Crater.) I missed it twice, but noticed it the 3rd time. It's really just a sand path, and my Camry only made it halfway there, before my wheels began to spin in the sand and I had to turn around. But you really don't need to get closer; the view from Hwy 120 is plenty good, because these things are massive.

An unbelievable sight that you will never forget.

To see the rest of my itinerary, search for "East Sierras".
