Palo Alto, CA
This is a big place, spread out on 3 levels, on a hillside. Most rooms face Mono Lake and there is a large garden and restaurant in front. (No free breakfast.) I made reservations at the last minute, so I got a room without a view. But it was still nice, although old. There was a/c, which I didn't need. The room was large.
The best part: The older woman and young guy at the front desk treated me as if it were a small, family place. The woman came out from behind the desk and walked me outside to point out my room. And showed me the best place to park, for easy access to the ramp to wheel my suitcase. (Warning: No elevators.) When I got to my room, I realized that I forgot to check if this place has a fridge! And I had perishable food. So I called the front desk and asked if they had a frdige where I could put just a couple of things. The woman said, "Ya know... I can help you..." She came up to my room and unlocked a door. I thought it was for an adjoining room. But it was a full kitchen! I'm sure they charge extra for that...
It was quiet and comfortable and I would definitely stay here again. Not even sure that I would ask for a lake view, as the garden/restaurant area in front probably generates noise.
To see the rest of my itinerary, search for "East Sierras".
