Different than historical re-creations. Nothing here has been restored. The town was abandoned fairly quickly, so you walk through an empty city, with things eerily in place. Not as kid-friendly as those butter-churning, corn husk doll-making demonstrations. Definitely for older kids and adults.

I paid the extra $2. at the park entrance, and got the booklet that takes you on a self-guided walking tour. A necessity!

I spent 2.5 hours in Bodie. And it's a pretty long drive from Hwy 395.

I had planned on going to Mono Lake Basin Visitor's Center next. But it closed at 5:00, and I missed it.

To see the rest of my itinerary, search for 'East Sierras'.

This place is amazing but go prepared for any kind of weather. We showed up on a very hot sunny day. Everyone around us was wearing short and tank tops. An hour later it was SNOWING! This old ghost town has been maintained as it was when the people left it. Books are on the shelves, school papers on school desks, etc. If you are a photographer you'll get some amazing pictures. All the tours, even the ones that cost a slight bit extra are worth it.
