This trip takes several hours. First you buy the bus ticket in the Adventure Center. Then you take a lengthy (but scenic) ride. Then you hike.
But it was the most interesting place on my trip. When you round the corner on the trail, and come face-to-face with the Devil's Postpile, you let out an involuntary gasp. I believe I said, "Oh, my!" And there was no one else there at the moment! I waited to see if other people did the same thing. And they did. The internet pictures cannot prepare you. Although it is not massive, like Yosemite, it is such an unusual sight!
Make sure and hike to the top, too. You get to walk on the tops of the hexagonal posts, just as if you're walking on a tile floor! Incredible.
