Luxury oriental style. From the moment you enter and are offered a sweet concoction of lemon grass tea, to the concierge services and overt friendliness at every turn, the Mandarin Oriental makes for the perfect launching point to experience Bangkok. Close to the overhead train service and water taxis, it's easy to explore Bangkok from here. The constant flow of taxis to the hotel make hailing a taxi quick, and the doorman can translate your destination to the driver for you. Although expensive, dining is a great experience. Probably the largest fitness center I've ever seen in a hotel anywhere - treadmills, cycles, ellipticals, free weights, machines... Two tennis courts as well. Prices are comparable to a Western luxury hotel, wifi will cost you $25 US per day and the breakfast buffet $40 US per person, just to give you an idea of costs. Services at the restaurant were always a bit slow - 5-10 minutes to get a cup of coffee, for example.
