A great breakfast/brunch spot for special occasions, Alana's is located in a restored Victorian, serves breakfast and lunch. Freshly made scones, coffee cakes and quiche, they also have egg scrambles and sandwiches. They have a great selection of teas as well. On sunny mornings its great to sit in the garden, but the dining rooms are very nice (and warm on cooler days).

There are two restaurants, one in Burlingame, and the other in Redwood City. In our family, the children prefer Burlingame. Personally, I think it's the lure of downtown Burlingame and the nearby Apple store and clothing shops that they prefer. I prefer Alana's in Redwood City for a variety of reasons - I like the charm of the Victorian building, outdoor gardens and tables. Parking is readily available. And the menu and preparation are virtually identical between the two restaurants. For breakfast, I usually head straight for "Company's Coming", a hearty combination of homefries, tomatoes, scallions, mushrooms, Italian sausage, cheddar and provolone cheese, sauteed and topped with 2 poached eggs. Alana's is excellent, but ranks very closely behind my "top 3" breakfast places for eggs (in no particular order, depends on what I'm hankering for): Il Fornaio and Peninsula Creamery in Palo Alto, and Christie's Restaurant in Burlingame.
