The first thing you need to know about gyms in the North Lake Tahoe region is that they are far and few between if you're looking for anything more than a hotel gym with a treadmill, bike and a few dumbbells. To the best of my knowledge, there are only three fully equipped gyms: A Sante Lakeside Fitness in Tahoe City, Elevation Fitness Club in Truckee (I've not been there), and the Northstar Resort Recreation Center (Hyatt, Ritz-Carlton, and condo owner/guests only). A Sante has lots of cardio, resistance machines and free weights - comparable to a 24-Hour Fitness or Gold's Gym, just smaller. All the equipment is what you would find in a professional gym and well maintained. All the cardio machines have a picture window view on Lake Tahoe, and some cardio machines have views of the lake and a TV (no volume). Good music is playing, but not blaring. Very tasteful and clean. Free lockers (just leave your car key or driver's license at the front desk) and showers. Also a nice stretching area (they could use a stretching cage, though). I purchase 10 visits on a punch card to save some money.
